History

The Dairy started with the creation of Studio 1 in 1993. A multi-room classic studio setup, centred around a 60-channel Neve VR Legend in the Control Room, recording to 24-track tape. A large Live Room plus 2 isolated booths meant the studio was perfect for the rock and indie bands of the late 90’s and early noughties. Bands ranging from The View, Muse, Florence and The Machine, Alabama 3, Mystery Jets, Elbow, Bullet For My Valentine and the Cinematic Orchestra all used Studio 1 up until 2009 when it became a private studio.

Over the years the complex grew with the addition of Studio 2, a smaller setup built around a 48 channel SSL E-Series desk in the Control room and a large overdubbing/vocal booth. It immediately became the favourite studio for mixing sessions, owing to the desk, as well as recording sessions that didn’t need the expansive live room. This of course was very popular for the pop, rap, garage and grime acts that flourished in the  90’s & 00’s and hosted artists such as, So Solid Crew, Jamelia, Big Brovaz, Roll Deep, M.I.A, Faithless and Basement Jaxx.

Then came Studio 3, a writing room for the sessions that didn’t need a live room or a vintage mixing desk. Just space to collaborate and put down ideas. This creates a relaxed and laid back feeling which is clearly very conducive for songwriting. Studio 3 has been busy ever since, so of all the studios, it is probably responsible for the most hits.

Alongside our main studios we have 5 production rooms that are rented by producers who need a more permanent base in London. This has helped create a real sense of continuity and community at The Dairy and creates an environment that feels welcoming, nurturing and productive.
